Este próximo 8 de julio vuelve el conjunto holandés por excelencia The Gathering, al escenario del Circo Volador en la Ciudad de México. Pero las circunstancias que rodean a la banda liderada por René Rutten son distintas pues Silje Wergeland, la nueva cantante, pisará por primera vez estos territorios a pesar de la vasta trayectoria del grupo de rock progresivo y alternativo.
Aún dentro de la gira de su LP de 2009 The West Pole, primero con Wergeland, The Gathering viene a darnos un anticipo de su próximo material a salir a finales del 2011, cuyo primer sencillo Heroes For Ghosts, ya fue editado por los europeos; además Frank Boeijen (teclados), nos adelanta que estrenarán otro tema de esta esperada producción en los entarimados de México.
Search & Destroy dialogó con Boeijen en vísperas de su llegada y de los proyectos que tienen en mente.

Search & Destroy: ¿Cómo estás?
Frank Boeijen: Muy bien gracias. La siguiente semana (actual semana) salimos a la gira por Latinoamérica y ansíamos ya estar ahí, ojalá vaya bien.
Search & Destroy: Este será su primer concierto en México con Silje Wergeland a la voz. ¿Tienen expectativas por presentarse con ella en este País, luego de conocer bien al público mexicano en una etapa distinta de The Gathering?
Frank Boeijen: Bueno, por supuesto espero que a la gente le guste. Hemos tenido muy buenas reacciones en donde hemos tocado aquí en Europa con la nueva cantante, las cosas han funcionado bien. Por supuesto que es un gran cambio y esto nos dio mucha nueva energía e inspiración para estos shows en vivo y sí, ya queremos que se lleven a cabo.
Search & Destroy: Y relacionado a lo que comentas, The West Pole, su primer álbum con ella tuvo muy buenas críticas. Los músicos siempre esperan algo de sus discos, ¿se esperaban eso?
Frank Boeijen: No sabía que esperar porque estuvimos "ausentes" por mucho tiempo y claro, este fue un cambio agresivo y nunca sabes que va a pensar la gente. Pero creo que al final hicimos un muy buen álbum y puede escucharse en el. Queríamos seguir con la banda, estábamos en una etapa muy creativa y estoy contento porque asi fue lanzando el disco. Sí, hubo una muy buena aceptación con una nueva cantante.
Search & Destroy: Teniendo una buena base en The Gathering, ¿qué sentimientos hubo al saber que uno de sus integrantes se salía?
Frank Boeijen: Por supuesto que fue un cambio grande, al principio no sabes que hacer y '¿después que?' Tuvimos muchas pláticas al respecto y hubo que pensar rápido. Al principio era natural detenernos porque habíamos estado haciendo música desde hace mucho tiempo, desde los 16 años que estoy en esta banda y habíamos cambiado de integrantes antes, de cantantes, y siempre fue un éxito, además como artista y con visión quieres hacer música y ser creativo, ¿por qué no seguir con la banda? Había que seguir y buscar a alguien más y es así como sucedió.
Search & Destroy: The Gathering lanzó hace pocas semanas el sencillo Heroes For Ghosts, ¿qué puedes platicar sobre esto?
Frank Boeijen: Es un track que lanzamos por primera vez de forma gratuita en Internet. Es un adelanto del próximo álbum en el que ahora seguimos trabajando, pero queremos lanzarlo a finales de año. Y sí, es una canción extraña porque es muy larga y trabajamos con nuevos elementos que nunca antes habíamos usado, puedes escuchar una trompeta en la canción y hay nuevos aspectos. Creo que funcionará muy bien en vivo, la tocaremos en los próximos shows.
Search & Destroy: Además de esa canción, ¿tocarán más material inédito en el show de México?
Frank Boeijen: Sí, una canción más, no es tan larga como 'Heroes For Ghosts' pero tampoco es tan corta. También haremos canciones que no hemos tocado en mucho tiempo. Será un setlist muy interesante.
Search & Destroy: ¿Ya tienen títulos para las canciones de este próximo LP? Incluso, ¿ya tienen el nombre de este material?
Frank Boeijen: Aún no tenemos un título para el disco, de hecho de la otra canción que tocaremos tampoco tiene un título temporal (risas), quizá cambie al siguiente día, pero por ahora está en el setlist como 'Rusty Hands'.
Search & Destroy: ¿René Rutten (Guitarra) está produciendo de nueva cuenta este CD?
Frank Boeijen: Sí, hemos grabado en distintos estudios, pero en el verano haremos una sesión extra para completar algunas canciones, todavía no terminamos el disco, estamos en una etapa creativa.
Search & Destroy: Ya que con este próximo álbum tendrán más canciones de la era "Silje Wergeland", ¿qué tanto hay la posibilidad de algún lanzamiento en vivo con ella?
Frank Boeijen: Quizá. Creo que los lanzamientos en DVD son buenos para nosotros y a la gente le encanta la experiencia de un concierto en vivo. Si es que vamos a grabar y a filmar, no sé cuando sucedería porque cuesta mucho dinero y mucha preparación. Quizá en el futuro lo volvamos a hacer.
Search & Destroy: Gracias Frank por la entrevista, ¿te gustaría agregar algo más?
Frank Boeijen: Gracias y espero que los fans mexicanos asistan al show y queremos ya estar ahí porque hace tiempo que no vamos y me gusta ir a México, es un bello País.

Firstly, the people who start cosnripacy theories almost always have a political axe to grind against another political faction. This is almost always a preexisting condition. The cosnripacy theorist will always be looking on how to exploit some indiscrepancies in largely accepted facts. They will then use numerous abnormalities to formulate their theory which will support their underlying political beliefs. The theory must start with a few abnormalities but after those abnormalities the theory must take on a believable course of action. Once people take that first abnormality as proof of a larger cosnripacy, they will begin to believe everything … up to a point. A cosnripacy is not too hard to believe given historical evidence, e.g. Japan blowing up a railway line in an excuse to invade China in WWII. However, the believer of the theory doesn’t want to understand that these historical evidences are quiet different then the modern world, in their eyes, nothing has changed. To build a strong theory, stronger scientific evidence must exist for the theory to be truly believable, although the theorist already believes it. The theorist will gather scientific (hard) evidence from sources that are already biased toward their beliefs. They will also find the few sketchy ‘eye-witness’ accounts of any kind of evidence that can support their theory. It should be noted that ‘eye-witness’ accounts are usually unreliable due to: belief bias, not remembering things correctly in the heat of the moment, fear, etc. The cosnripacy theory is ready to fly if the following are satisfied: Does it make sense? Is it plausible? Is there a means, motive and opportunity available at every stage? Is there enough evidence to support the theory? Most importantly, does the cosnripacy theory actually explain what happened? Even now after so much bending of the truth, all that exists is circumstantial evidence that wouldn’t stand up in any legitimate court. The theorist will now release their theory via book, documentary, website (blog), and interviews on mass media that directs interested parties to the book, documentary, or website.Secondly, this smaller above mentioned cosnripacy theory (e.g. 9/11), is almost always connected to a larger cosnripacy theory (e.g. NWO). Both the smaller and larger cosnripacy theory is facilitated by the federal government, large corporations, and the military. These three organizations are controlled by an Illuminati or “Enlighted” people. The Illuminati are one or a combination of the following: Socialists, Conservatives, Rich People, Fascists, Freemasons, Jews, Skull and Bones, Catholics, Bilderbergs, Morons, a Super Computer, Cyborgs from the Future, Aliens, or the Devil and his Followers. These Illuminati have the intent on creating a New World Order, which is pretty much the largest cosnripacy that could possibly exist. Conspiracy theories attract those people who are looking for the competitive advantage of intelligence/the truth, albeit non-existent, to make up for some other sort falling of theirs. Those that create conspiracies either: want to service a political objective by creating fear and division amongst their rivals, feel important or smarter or “enlightened” themselves, or they just dislike those that they are accusing . They almost always believe their own myth. If facts are used to debunk the theory, the theorist will simply say that the debunker is naive or unenlightened. Little consideration is taken to the realistic problems of an actual cosnripacy like the number one killer of a real cosnripacy: a leak. Unless the events happened in a controlled society (e.g. North Korea), any real cosnripacy involving a large organizational body is quickly whistleblowed by someone inside the organization. This is especially true of either politically charged events like 9/11, or events involving large institutions that employ people with a myriad of beliefs, agendas, and ideologies. Many American conspiracies centralize around distrust of the federal government, shows like the X-files don’t help.The more society believes in cosnripacy theories, the more easy it is for future cosnripacy theories to come to fruition, and the crazier they will get. I fear that society’s line between reality and stupidity is becoming ever blurrier.Conspiracy theories slowly fade away when the events no longer apply to present political circumstances and/or when the people that created them and believed in them grow old and die.
